Facebook Turns Its Photo Uploader into a Plug-in

Author: admin | Filed under: Facebook

Facebook began rolling out a new photo uploader, one that the company hopes will be faster, easier and more stable than the live one.

In an announcement on Facebook’s blog, the company discovered that the new Facebook uploader is actually a browser plug-in. In order to upload photos, you have to install it.

Once that’s done, though, you will be recognise by a new user interface for uploading photos that links to your computer’s file directory. From Facebook, you can navigate your hard drive and pick out the photos you want. A preview part on the bottom of the uploader reaches it easy to pick the right pics out.

Oh, and it has another great feature: background uploads. You can navigate away from not only the upload page, but from Facebook itself while uploading photos. A notice will tell you that the uploads are complete.

We don’t like installation plug-ins unless we have to, only we can see why Facebook took this approach. Still, this will set some people from being able to upload, specially those at work with locked-down browsers.

What do you think: Is this a fast move by Facebook or are plug-ins a bad idea? Is it active for you? Let us know in the comments.

Facebook Gives Us the Lowdown on Its Redesign [VIDEO]

Author: admin | Filed under: Facebook

Yesterday, Facebook celebrated its sixth birthday and a new milestone: 400 million users. Oh, and it celebrated it in style, if we do say so ourselves.

Last night, the company determined to mark the important occasion by introduction a complete homepage redesign and throwing a party for its employees. Not only that, but it tempted engineering students and choose members of the press to chat with Facebook’s team, including Mark Zuckerberg, COO Sheryl Sandberg and Product Manager Peter Deng

In a personal meeting with the press, Mr. Deng took the time to explicate the new Facebook redesign and all of its different features in-depth. I slashed out my Kodak ZI8 and filmed the whole conversation and demo. While he didn’t discover many new details, he did offer a very useable overview that made Facebook design and its plan much better to understand.

Number of Tweets Gone Wild for Some Users

Author: admin | Filed under: Twitter

Twitter appears to be having some troubles again, as some users report their number of tweets is off the graphs, normally up to tens of thousands, although the real number is much shorter.

We’ve e-mailed Twitter and asked them what’s occurring. It looks that in any case unusually high number of tweets for certain users, everything else is normal, so there’s no reason to panic just so far.

Update: Twitter user ScepticGeek shows out that this trouble has been going on for quite some time now, as can be seen from this bug asking on Twitter support forums. Don’t expect it to be fixed very soon, though. As Twitter puts it, this bug is a low priority issue because it does not keep users from fully using Twitter. We do not expect to have this issue fixed in the direct future for this reason.

How to get your site indexed faster

Author: admin | Filed under: Internet Marketing

If you find yourself adding pages to a website that hasn’t been updated for a long time you will find out that Google will not index it right away. Why? Google starts to index the page right away, then it will return in a few days to see if any changes have been made. If none has been made it may return in a week, and if still no changes were made it may return in a month to see if changes were made and so on.

So, you may have added some articles to your website that you want Google to index on your site first before publishing them so that if someone were to do a search and your article pops up you would like it to be your website at the top of the list instead of the article directory that it was found on. So for sound SEO practice it is generally a good idea to have your article indexed on your web site before submitting it to article directories.

Okay, so you figure that you will just create a sitemap and resubmit it to webmaster central through your Google control panel, right? Google may still take a little time before indexing your site and if you would like to get it indexed sooner you can do so by applying links from an outside website source that gets indexed frequently that point to the new pages on your website.

A Professional Twitter Presence

Author: admin | Filed under: Twitter

Define Your Purpose

Before you go changing anything around on your twitter profile to make it more professional you must decide what the purpose of the account is.

Is your purpose to connect with friends and family?
Is your purpose to share important updates to customers of your store or online business?
Is your purpose to attract potential clients and to give them an understanding of why they should choose your product or service?

If your purpose is only to connect with friends and family then you don’t really need to have a professional presence in my opinion.

But if your purpose is business related then the following steps will help you create a professional presence on twitter.

Sometimes people will have a personal and a business-related purpose for using twitter. In those cases I recommend having a personal twitter account and a separate business related account on twitter.

1. Get a custom background

To create a professional presence on twitter you want to have your own unique background. The default background is used by millions of people and you want to set yourself apart.

There are many websites that will help you create a customized background for your twitter account. And the best part is that most of them are free.

To create a custom background for my twitter account I used Twitbacks.com.

2. Use a picture of yourself

Twitter allows you to have a small avatar picture associated with your account and I recommend using a personal photograph for this.

It doesn’t have to be a professional headshot where your hair and makeup is perfect; it just needs to be a picture of you.

This allows your followers to connect your tweets and messages with a real person. This personal touch adds credence to what you say.

3. Your phone number

I like to post my phone number on my twitter account for all of my followers to see. When followers see a phone number listed with a twitter account it gives them confidence that if they had a problem or question there is someone they could call.

I know some of you will be uncomfortable doing this and it’s completely understandable.

But if you run a small business or work in any line of sales then you really need to have your phone number listed on your twitter account.

To my knowledge twitter does not allow you to actually list the phone number as part of your account. But you can have it be part of your background.

4. List your email address

You will also want to list your e-mail address on your twitter account. Just as with phone numbers, you can’t actually list your e-mail on your account but you can include it as part of your background.

I know some of you will be concerned about posting your e-mail and receiving spam.

To deal with this I created a second e-mail address that I used specifically for my business. And this is the e-mail address that I post on my twitter account.

Luckily Gmail has a very good spam filter and so I actually get very few spam messages in my inbox each week.

5. Be professional in your tweets

People follow you for a reason. Whether it’s to hear about new products your store is offering or updates about the cause you represent, people are listening to what you say.

And the minute you deviate from that you will lose followers.

So before you post a tweet ask yourself, “Why are people following me? And is this new tweet something they want to hear about?”

If the answer is no or if you’re not sure then do not post the new tweet.

6. Tweet regularly but don’t overdo it

I will usually tweet something in the morning and then sometimes in the evening. 1 to 3 tweets today is optimal.

You want to your followers to see something from you each day but you don’t want to overdo it.
The last thing you want is for one of your followers to see that the last 20 tweets are all from you. When this happens to me I immediately unfollow the person.

7. Only follow people that you’re interested in

A popular way to get followers is to follow a whole bunch of people and hope that many of them follow you back. This results in you having 3,000 followers and you are following 3,000 people yourself.

When people see this it looks less professional. They know there is no way you can be listening to what all 3000 people are tweeting about.

To improve search engine ranking aside from the Google offsite factors, you can make use of the following Google onsite factors:

1. Age Of Site

The site age is one of the single most important criteria of the Google algorithm, especially for new sites in competitive niches. This effect is created by algorithm components rather than a lone algorithm component itself. This factor becomes increasingly more important in the future.

2. Historical Performance Of Site

SEO enthusiasts believed that search engines see everything from the doings of users and sites that chose to engage in search engine products. Google is always on the learning stage. After gathering enough data, try to understand it.

3. Links Inside The Site’s Internal Link Structure

There are multiple examples of top rankings for competitive keywords with only internal links pointed to it. Seek to use the keywords as anchor text within the content when applicable or in the site menus. This factor is frequently unnoticed for the reason that most of the tips focus on making backlinks.

4. The TLD Extension of Site

TLD Site extension is an important factor for country specific than for edu, gov, com, net, and org sites. This feature is more useful to sites that promotes specific services and products to specific countries.

5. HTML Validation of Document

The good content has nothing to do with HTML Validation. Like it should be, this is probably never be a ranking factor. But there are chances that a part of the text disappears when a tag is not closed properly which make unreadable to the spiders.

The two largest social networks, Facebook and Twitter, offer very different ways to build your brand and promote it socially.Facebook provides a better platform for publishing rich media. The essential problem with using Twitter to publish rich media like videos and photos is that you can’t actually use. Facebook gives companies the ability to post videos, photos, audio and music, as well as all kinds of interactive content like discussion boards, polls, etc, all of which is easily accessible.
In my opinion facebook provide you better platform to promote your product than twitter. Facebook provide

  • Facebook provides a better platform for publishing rich media.
  • Facebook offers better, easier integration with your website.
  • Facebook offers better two-way communication.
  • Facebook offers a much larger audience.
  • Better control over content.
  • Facebook’s advertising platform gives you the ability to promote your brand faster.

Where as

  • Twitter is an excellent way to hold a conversation with a single fan or user.
  • Twitter doesn’t have any systems in place to do two-way communication
  • Twitter doesn’t offer any tools for moderation
  • Twitter currently doesn’t have any built-in advertising platform

Benefits of one way link building

Author: admin | Filed under: Link Building

1. No need to exchange links

Link exchanges can be frustrating and very time consuming because you need to find the right sites to exchange links with plus the response may be little or nothing. Most site owners delete these requests.

2. Keyword targeting

Internet users enter keywords in the search engines to find information. Targeting your specific keyword in the text of your one way link (known as anchor text) will increase your search engine visibility.

3. Branding

If you want to build brand awareness for your business name use it in the anchor text of your article resource box or when commenting on other blogs and forums.

4. Gain authority status

As you receive more backlinks, you attract more visitors. Over time your site will become known as the “go to” site for information on your topic. If your site appears on the first page of the search engine results’ pages, people will find it naturally when searching on your targeted keyword or business name.

5. Increase search engine rankings

Your site’s rankings increase in proportion to the number of links pointing to it. The more links you receive from other sites, the higher your rankings.

6. Boost web traffic

The number of visitors will increase because you are getting traffic from a variety of web site links. For example, if you get a one way link from a high traffic site some of their visitors will be redirected to your site. If your article gets posted on a popular site or ezine you may receive a sudden flood of visitors. If it remains there you’ll receive an ongoing source of traffic.

7. Receive return visitors

Visitors keep returning to your web site when there is new information that helps their business. Building lots of one way links will attract them to your site. If you want to keep them there, provide evergreen content. If it’s high quality content they will want to share it with other business owners.
